Learning outcomes | |
After completing the discipline, the student must distinguish between different types of game animals.Student will acquire the basics of diagnosis of the most common infectious and parasitic diseases. He will learn about the measures against their further spread, especially of infectious and parasitic diseases in the wild and intensive game breeding fascilities. In the case of poisoning, he must be able to handle a complex of measures - taking samples, principles of their preservation and transportation to diagnostic laboratories. The student must have mastered the basics of physical restraint of mammal and bird species and chemical immobilization of game animals. |

Brief outline of the course | |
Students become familiar with diseases of game species mammals and birds, methods of restraint of wild animals, manipulation and transport of game. They obtain knowledge about intensive breeding of game ruminants and pheasants and about capture breeding of raptors. |

Lectures: 1. Wildlife and zoo medicine, population medicine, animal indicators, organizations of zoological medicine 2. Zoological clasification of game mammals and birds 3. Intensive breeding of game (pheasants, fallow deer, red deer, muoflon game) 4. Birds of prey – diseases, management of breeding in captivity 5. Parasitic diseases of game 6. Toxicoses of game 7. Viral diseases of game 8. Bacterial diseases of game 9. Fungal diseases, non infectious diseases of game 10. Game meat - quality requirements, handling, transportation, storage 11. Transportation of live game, quarantine, rehabilitation center 12. Physical and chemical restraint of game 13. Deer farming Practicals: 1. Zoology of game bird species 2. Zoology of game mammal species 3. Field investigation, sample collection and methods of sample preservation 4. Pat. anat. necropsy of game bird and mammal 5. Parasit. necropsy, practical parasit. examinations of game 6. Practical chemical immobilization of big game species 7.
