CONDITIONS FOR COMPLETION OF COURSE
To successfully complete the course, the student must participate in seminars in accordance with the study regulations, present a seminar paper, and pass a written examination in the semester with a grade of at least 51%. The student may repeat the written examinations twice. The revision dates will be announced by the course tutor. The course ends with an examination.
Learning outcomes
Course completion gives knowledge about the bioethical view of animals, their physiological and psychological needs, and the ethical interpretation of animal welfare. Students will be informed about the fundamental ethical principles of the profession of veterinary surgeon as well.
Brief outline of the course
Ethics - introduction, history , bioethics, animal rights, welfare, experiment on animals, euthanasia, welfare of farm animals, companion animals, veterinary ethics, oath, veterinary imperative, communication in veterinary practice.

4. Experiments on animals, Genetic engineering
5. Ethical aspects of euthanasia
6. Welfare of farm animals from an ethical point of view
7. Welfare of companion animals from an ethical point of view
8. Veterinary Ethics – introduction, 4 branches of Veterinary Ethics
9. Veterinary Ethics – veterinarian´s oath, veterinary imperative; law, religions and Veterinary Ethics, Ethics in academic veterinary practice
10. Nonverbal communication in veterinary practice
11. Verbal communication in veterinary practice, human temperament
