CONDITIONS FOR COMPLETION OF COURSE
Continuous assessment:
Continuous evaluation is based on active participation in the practices.
Conditions for completion of course:
Lectures are held for all students together - online or in present form depending on the circumstances.
During the practices, students are divided into groups. The practices are performed in present form. Outdoor practicals are realize in blocks (6 hours).
Participation on the lectures is not mandatory. A student can miss a maximum of one practices without compensation. If the student has more missed practices, he must agree to compensate them with the tutor of subject. Active participation during the practices is also mandatory.
Learning outcomes
After completing the discipline, the student will acquire knowledge about game species, their breeding and management in the wild as well as in intensive breeding such as pheasant farms and deer farms.
Brief outline of the course
Students become familiar with breeding of game species mammals and birds, manipulation and transport of game. They obtain knowledge about intensive breeding of game ruminants and pheasants and about capture breeding of raptors.
Course syllabus
Sylabus of lectures:
- Population medicine, animal indicators, organizations of zoological medicine
- Zoology of game mammals
-Zoology of game birds
- Birds of prey – management of breeding in captivity and falconry
- Physical restraint of game
- Deer farming
- Intensive breeding of fallow deer and mouflons
- Pheasant farming
- Rewiev of game diseases
- Field investigations, samples colection
- Game transport
- Game hygiene - quality requirements, handling, transportation, storage
Sylabus of practicals:
- 1st block- Physical restraint of game mammals and birds, samples colection and biometrical measurements of game ruminants in University facility in Rozhanovce
- 2nd block - Zoology of game mammals and birds - Zoological exposition, Game trophy exhibition
- 3rd block - Intensive pheasant breeding and rehabilitation of birds of prey
- Basics of big game trophy evaluation
