CONDITIONS FOR COMPLETION OF COURSE
The subject "Diseases of pigs I" is thematically dedicated to the teaching of internal - non-infectious and reproductive diseases of pigs. In both parts of the course, 100% participation in practical exercises is a condition for graduation. In case of absence, a substitute is required, the form, place and time of which will be determined by the relevant teacher teaching on the given day. It is also recommended to attend lectures that contain the most up-to-date information from the given fields of study. An important condition for passing the course is more than 51% success in the credit test, which will be implemented at the end of the semester.
Learning outcomes
After completing the subject, the student acquires knowledge, practical habits and skills in clinical investigation as well as diagnosis of internal and reproductive diseases of pigs. The subject is a good basis for completing the subject "Swine Diseases II", which is implemented in the 11th and 12th semesters of study. This follow-up course will include teaching on infectious and parasitic diseases, surgery and porcine orthopedics.
Brief outline of the course
The content, focus and goal of the study subject "Diseases of pigs I. - in both theoretical and practical teaching is the acquisition of knowledge, practical habits and skills in the diagnosis, therapy and prevention of organ, metabolic, production and reproductive diseases of pigs. This subject also educates students in the use of special diagnostic methods and therapeutic procedures for organ diseases of piglets, gilts, sows and boars in breeding and experimental conditions.

1. Reproduction cycle of sows; 2. Non-infectious diseases of GIT, Herniothomy; 3. Management
of swine production; 4. Diseases of Heart and Circulatory system, Diseases of respiratory system;
5. Castration of boars and ovariectomy; 6. Diseases of Mammary gland, Monitoring of farrowing;
7. Infertility of boars; 8. Caesarean Section, Puerperal diseases of sows; 9. Infertility of sows –
Infectious causes; 10. Musculosceletal Swine Claw Lesion Identification, Digit amputation; 11.
Infertility of sows – non-infectious causes; 12. Shoulder sores, Postpartum Care; 13. Embryonic
mortality, biotechnical control of reproduction
Practicals:
1. – 2. Clinical examination of pigs, diagnostic of pig diseases, ProVet veterinary software; 3.
– 4. Semen collection from boar, dilution of ejaculate; 5. – 6. Enteral and parenteral routs of
medications, Individual work with patient 7. – 8. Laboratory examination of boar ejaculate; 9. – 10.
Venepuncture, Individual work with patient; 11. – 12. USG detection of pregnancy, sow pregnancy;

NOTES
The order of lectures and exercises, as well as the content, may change according to the clinical material, patients and occurrence of diseases in the pig clinic. Due to the infectious situation associated with African swine fever, the exercises are only carried out in the pig clinic. Disposable protective clothing and washable rubber shoes are required.
