Active participation on seminars according to study regulations valid for the given academic year. The minimum required attendance at seminars is 75%.
Preparation and presentation of role plays
Passing a written exam test in the scope of the subject achieving at least 50,1% at the end of the semester
Learning outcomes
Aim of the education process is to prepare students for further career. Help them to gain practical experience in communication and negotiation with clients. The main educational outcome that the student acquires by the subject is the understanding of the professional communication associated with veterinary profession. The student will master the principles of professional communication in interaction student/teacher, graduate/employer and veterinary nurse/veterinarian, client, state administration authority and/or the private sector, as well as the academic environment. It will acquire communication and presentation skills useful in setting up and operating private practice, further education and gaining specialization.
Brief outline of the course
The subject in a comprehensive form provides basic information about communication, its ways, forms and styles, and their application in problem solving situations. It also deals with person typology from the point of view of communication. Describes advantages of assertive communication and the need to use presentation skills in self-presentation before the professional and non-professional public.
The content of the subject also include the communication of graduates with clients, future employers, representatives of state and private institutions, as well as communication while establishing and building up privat practice from the point of view of its management and marketing.
Course syllabus
1. Introduction to communication, definition of communication and its evolutionary development. Social aspect of communication. Purpose of communication and ways of communication. Function of communication and reasons to communicate in a proper way.
2. The communication process and its elements. Types of communication, communication hierarchy. Obstacles to communication. The importance of communication from the point of view of the veterinary profession and its changes.
3. Effective communication. Active listening. Verbal and Nonverbal Communication. Communication styles.
4. F-t-F communication, group communication, public speaking. Communication skills.
5. Applying for employment. Effective communication as a tool to get a job. Job interview.
6. Types and forms of social communication. Position of the legislation in the practice of veterinary practice and the way of its communication.
7. Assertive communication and its place in veterinary practice. Communication of requirements related to services and performances in veterinary practice (price formation, price list of operations and operations, drug policy, etc.)
8. Economics as a basis for successful veterinary practice. Communication with clients and suppliers. Client-supplier typology from a communication perspective.
9. Problem communication - aggression, passivity, manipulation and conflict resolution. Technique of asking questions.
10. The role of marketing in veterinary practice. Ability to "sell yourself". Selling and presentation skills.
11. Further education and specialization. Effective presentation.
12. Written communication. Preparation of a motivation letter and a professional CV. Vetfuture.
13. Credit test.

Final assessment:
Subject is completed by the obtaining a credit. Credit will be granted after passing the written test. Final written test consists of multiple choice, terms &/or short open ended questions. Classification table with the number of points or the percentages obtained, are listed in the heading of each test. The rating is based on the number of points achieved (correct answers) or the percentage of correct answers as follows: A (excellent) - 91-100%, B (very good) - 81-90%, C(good) - 71-80 %, D (satisfactory) - 61-70%, E (sufficient) – 50,1-60% and Fx (insufficient) - 50% or less.
