Learning outcomes
The aim of the study is to obtain theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of pet hygiene, evaluation of the microclimate in housing facilities, evaluation and measurement of individual microclimate factors, assessment of welfare, knowledge of breeding and care of pets. The subject is is based on hygiene and prevention of diseases. Protection measures obtain knowledges of sanitation, insect control, rat control and treatment of organic materials.
Brief outline of the course
Basic terms and definitions in pet hygiene.
Evaluation of physical (temperature, humidity, airflow, light and lighting and noise), chemical (ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide and other gases) and microbiological factors of the microclimate of the animal housing environment. Building hygiene, basic thermal-technical properties of building materials and structures. Health aspect of the effect of the building and the environment on the breeding environment.
The issue of welfare of pets, legislative requirements for breeding, their protection, well-being and conditions of their keeping.
Transport and handling of pets.
Welfare and keeping of laboratory animals, protection and handling.
Welfare and protection of animals in shelters.
