CONDITIONS FOR COMPLETION OF COURSE
1. 100% participation in seminar exercises is required. In case of absence (maximum of three times), the student is obliged to prepare and present a seminar paper from the uncompleted chapter.
2. During each exercise, students solve case reports, for which they must obtain an average grade of at least E (51%).
3. Passing the written exam with a grade of A (91-100%), B (81-90%), C (71-80%), D (61-70%) or E (51-60%).
Learning outcomes
By completing the course Clinical Biochemistry and Hematology, the student will gain knowledge about modern and specific methods of determining biochemical and hematological indicators of animal diseases. On the basis of case reports, he will acquire the ability to work professionally with a veterinarian in preparing a patient for collection of sample, in processing and transporting samples of biological material to the laboratory, as well as in administrative tasks in selecting the indicated laboratory examination and interpreting the result of the patient's laboratory findings.
Brief outline of the course
1. Laboratory medicine, collection, processing and transport of samples of biological material, interpretation of laboratory examination results
2. Hematological examination of disorders of hematopoiesis, erythrocytes and leukocytes
3. Hematological examination of disorders of hemocoagulation and thrombocytes
4. Clinical-biochemical indicators of isovolemia, isoionia and acid-base balance disorders
5. Clinical-biochemical indicators of carbohydrate metabolism disorders, diagnostic algorithm for diabetes mellitus
6. Clinical-biochemical indicators of lipid metabolism disorders, laboratory diagnosis of metabolic syndrome, obesity and dyslipoproteinemia
7. Clinical-biochemical indicators of protein metabolism disorders, laboratory diagnosis of dysproteinemias
8. Clinical-biochemical indicators of damage to the liver and hepatobiliary system
9. Clinical-biochemical indicators of damage to the pancreas and gastrointestinal tract
10. Clinical-biochemical indicators of skeletal muscle damage
11. Diagnostic algorithm of endocrine gland disorders (adrenal glands, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands)
12. Clinical-biochemical indicators of kidney function disorders and laboratory examination of urine
13. Laboratory examination of synovial fluid, cerebrospinal fluid and other body fluids
