CONDITIONS FOR COMPLETION OF COURSE
Participation in practicals with the possibility of compensation max. 2 practicals and an excuse for non-participation, a maximum of 1 absence. The credit will be awarded to the student after passing the credit test with a score more than 51% and successfully passing the final exam.
Learning outcomes
By completing the course, students obtain theoretical knowledge of legal regulations and legislative regulations governing the breeding and keeping of handicapped, abandoned and zoo animals, as well as practical skills in the handling and capture of this group of animals, knowledge in recognizing clinical symptoms of diseases and psychological disorders of above mentioned animals. Knowledge of the collection of biological material and its processing and application of preventive measures. They will obtain knowledge about welfare, the principles and conditions of keeping these animals, minimizing the negative effect on the health and well-being of animals
Brief outline of the course
Breeding, nutrition and care of handicapped, abandoned and ZOO animals
Clinical diagnosis, etiopathogenesis, differential diagnosis, therapy and prevention of non-infectious, infectious and parasitic diseases of disabled, abandoned and ZOO animals and their further management with regard to quo ad vitam and quo ad functionem
As a part of practical exercises, students obtain practical skills in clinical and laboratory diagnostics, and by using the Decision making approach, decide on the further handling of the mentioned animals
Principles of possession and conditions in breeding and rearing facilities
Legislation related to the operations of recognized facilities
Factors affecting the well-being and health of animals depending on the method of breeding, nutrition and care
Visits to accredited facilities for the placement of abandoned and handicapped animals, such as rehabilitation stations, animal shelters, "temporary" care, ZOO gardens, etc.

1. Introduction, definition of disabled (handicapped). abandoned and orphaned animals
2. Legal aspects of possession and handling of these groups of disabled animals
3. Biology, ecology and ethology of animals, basics of management of disabled animals
4. Principles of care in breeding disabled animals, nutrition, reproduction
5. Welfare, stress, pain and suffering of animals
6. Restraint, clinical examination and therapy in disabled animals
7. Welfare of interesting companion animals (birds, reptiles, small mammals)
8. Welfare of zoo animals, circus animals and abandoned animals
9. Welfare of experimental animals and experiments on animals
10. Welfare of handicapped animals
11. Specific needs of handicapped, abandoned and orphaned animals
12. Protection of endangered species of animals, nature and landscape, Rescue of animals in extreme situations. Marketing management in animal protection, Media communication in animal protection,
13. Excursion to institutions dealing with the protection of abandoned and handicapped animals (animal shelters). Credit
