CONDITIONS FOR COMPLETION OF COURSE
To pass the course, the student must have active participation in lectures and exercises. A condition for passing the examination is the preparation and defence of a seminar paper on a topic assigned by the supervisor (in the range A-E), which is the result of self-study. The examination is awarded on the basis of an assessment of the knowledge acquired (in the A-E range).
Learning outcomes
By completing the course, the student acquires knowledge from the mastery of interdisciplinary knowledge is the acquisition of basic knowledge of general toxicology, understanding the principles of the action of chemicals on living organisms, ecosystems and the environment. Mastery of the basic methodology and principles used in toxicology, including scientific categories and procedures and principles used in toxicology to assess the impact of toxic substances on living organisms.
Brief outline of the course
Study part (⅓ of the duration of the study programme): it is focused on the theoretical mastery of the problems of scientific research in classical as well as modern toxicology. It consists of a fixed part and an optional part (according to the scientific focus of the workplace where the graduate will work scientifically). The scientific part (⅔ of the duration of the study programme): - scientific research of partial problems of individual branches of toxicology - mastering the main rules of scientific work in the field with a focus on good laboratory practice, analysis of the scientific problem with the setting of the objectives of the solution - scientific interpretation of the obtained results - contribution of the investigated problem to the development of the scientific field - contribution of the presented scientific results to practice - estimation of the level of risk, recommendations, benefits and impact on legislation - presentation of new methods and procedures for the detection of hidden (non-manifest) effects of chemical substances on living systems and the environment - new methods for the treatment and prevention of toxicological diseases - development of new mathematical models for risk characterisation (including identification of harmful substances, dose-response relationships, exposure studies)
