CONDITIONS FOR COMPLETION OF COURSE
To pass the course, the student must actively participate in lectures and exercises. The condition for passing the exam is the preparation and defense of a seminar paper on a topic specified by the guarantor (in the range A-E), which is the result of self-study. The exam is awarded based on the evaluation of acquired knowledge (in the range A-E).
Learning outcomes
By completing the subject, the student will acquire theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of ecology and protection of environmental components, air, water and soil related to the hygiene conditions of animal husbandry. He will acquire knowledge in the field of environmental sanitation, disinfection, disinsection and deratization procedures in animal husbandry from the point of view of protecting the health of people and animals. Get to know procedures for protecting water resources from negative impacts from agricultural activity. As part of the hygienic analysis of the quality of drinking water, he knows the methodological procedures for the evaluation of individual indicators of the quality of drinking water. He will use his knowledge in solving the problem of processing and treatment of organic waste from animal production in connection with the subsequent use without negative impacts on the fertilization of pastures and soil within the framework of veterinary care for the environment and public health.
Brief outline of the course
Acquiring sufficient knowledge for: 1. solving preventive measures related to the protection of the components of the environment, air, water and soil and environmental ecology, 2. carrying out environmental sanitation procedures in animal husbandry, disinfection, disinsection and deratization with regard to the protection of the environment and human health and animals, 3. controlling the procedures for analyzing the qualitative indicators of drinking water, 4. solving the issue of hygienic processing and use of organic waste from the point of view of reducing the impact on water and soil, 5. monitoring the control of environmental pollution with the aim of reducing negative impacts.
Course syllabus
Lectures. 1. Protection of the environment during animal husbandry (water, air, soil). 2. Sanitation of the environment and preventive sanitation measures to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in relation to the environment. Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC). 3. Disinfection as part of sanitation, types, methods and stages of disinfection in relation to veterinary facilities and public health. 4. The importance of water and protection of water resources from pollution. The importance of water quality in relation to livestock production and public health. Prevention of waterborne diseases. 5. Air hygiene and airborne diseases. Sources of chemical and biological air pollution (gases, dust and microbiological contamination from animal production). Airborne diseases, prevention of their spread. 6. Pest control in environmental sanitation. Rodents, prevention and use of chemical rodenticides in practice. 7. Disinsection in environmental sanitation. Insects, prevention and methods of disinsection, their use in practice with regard to the environment and the health of organisms. 8. Organic waste from animal production, storage and processing of animal excrement from the point of view of environmental protection and prevention of the spread of diseases. 9. Wastewater from the point of view of environmental pollution, wastewater treatment and significance for public health. Exercises 1. Pollution of water, soil and pastures during animal husbandry, prevention of the spread of infectious diseases (seminar work according to the topic of study). 2. Characteristics of the main groups of disinfectants, their properties, mechanism of action. 3. Checking the effectiveness of disinfection. 4. Physical, chemical and microbiological quality indicators of drinking and surface water. 5. Chemical and microbiological indicators of air hygiene. 6. Pest control as a control of the occurrence of rodents. Rodenticides, use and health protection when working with rodenticides. 7. Disinsection, organization of disinsection works. General principles of working with insecticides, safety and health protection. 8. Composition, physical, chemical and microbiological properties of excrement of farm animals. Biothermal processing of animal excrement from the point of view of environmental protection and the spread of infectious diseases. 9. Wastewater treatment and evaluation of the effectiveness of the technological process of cleaning in the WWTP.
