The prerequisite for passing the examination is the preparation and defence of a seminar paper on the topic assigned by the supervisor (in the range A-E), which is the result of self-study. The examination is awarded on the basis of an assessment of the knowledge acquired (in the A-E range).
Learning outcomes
After completing this course, graduates acquire knowledge at molecular level in connection to their dissertation thesis in field of animal nutrition and dietetics.
Brief outline of the course
Biological oxidation of nutrients. Digestion of saccharides at molecular level and resorption of products of saccharide hydrolysis. Biochemical aspects of glycemia regulation in monogastric and polygastric animals. Digestion of lipids at molecular level and resorption of products of lipid hydrolysis. Metabolism of cholesterol and lipoprotein particles. Synthesis and utilization of ketone bodies, fasting ketosis. Digestion of proteins at molecular level and resorption of products of protein hydrolysis. Limiting amino acid, essential and non-essential amino acids and their metabolism. Diet influences on disorders in metabolism of mineral substances. Vitamins as structural-functional basics of coenzymes, molecular fundamentals of hypovitaminosis. Clinical-biochemical diagnostics of digestion disorders.
