CONDITIONS FOR COMPLETION OF COURSE
In order to pass the course, the student must have active participation in lectures and practical teaching. The prerequisite for passing the examination is the preparation and defence of a seminar paper on the topic assigned by the supervisor (in the range A-E), which is the result of self-study. The examination is awarded on the basis of an assessment of the knowledge acquired (in the A-E range).
Learning outcomes
During the study of the subject students acquire knowledge about general animal nutrition, the importance and methods of feed components treatment, technological procedures used in feed treatment in terms of their safety, as well as the equipment used, the technology of production of by-products of the food industry used in animal nutrition, their nutritional and dietetic value and use in the production of feed mixtures, the technology of production of feed mixtures, premixes and complementary feeds. After completing the course, students will have knowledge and practical skills in the field of general nutrition and safe production of feeds for their application in practical conditions. The learning outcomes will be verified in practical exercises, in the defence of the seminar paper and during the final examination.
Brief outline of the course
1) Nutritional and biological value of nutrients in feed and their laboratory determination;
Determined parameters of individual nutrients, their assessment and biological properties;
Digestibility, energy and biological value of feed;
Chemical procedures for determining the content of nutrients in feed: nitrogenous substances, proteins, amino acids, fats, structural carbohydrates (fiber) and non-structural carbohydrates (starch, non-starch polysaccharides, sugars), ash, minerals and vitamins;
Calculation of the nutritional value of feed according to the type of feed in connection with individual species of animals; Indicators of quality, dietetic value and health safety of feed;
Veterinary-dietetic evaluation of feed.
2) Importance and methods of treatment of feed components (physical, chemical, biological, biotechnological) from the point of view of the safety of their production;
Technological procedures used in feed processing and used equipment;
Technology of production of by-products of the food industry (milling, fat, sugar, starch, distillery, brewery, dairy), their nutritional and dietetic value;
Use of feed components in the production of feed mixtures;
Technology of production of feed mixtures, premixes, supplementary feed for individual species of animals.
