CONDITIONS FOR COMPLETION OF COURSE
In order to pass the course, the student must have active participation in lectures and exercises. A prerequisite for passing the examination is the preparation and defense of a seminar paper on a topic assigned by the supervisor (in the range A-E), which is the result of self-study. The examination is awarded on the basis of an assessment of the knowledge acquired (in the A-E range).
Learning outcomes
The student will gain theoretical and practical knowledge in the areas of agricultural and food waste collection, processing, and disposal. He will be able to assess the hygienic risks of their processing and disposal.
Brief outline of the course
After finishing the course, the student will have enough knowledge to solve the issues of: 1. hygienic processing and use of organic waste from agricultural activities; 2. hygienic processing and use of sewage sludge; 3. storage and sanitation of waste from agricultural and food production; and 4. evaluation of risks associated with handling these wastes.
Course syllabus
Livestock excrements, their economic use.
Types of individual agricultural fertilizers, chemical composition and effect on soil fertility.
Livestock excrement collection and storage.
Farm animal excrement treatment.
The hygienic risks associated with microorganism survival in livestock excrement.
Wastewater treatment, secondary uses for wastewater and sewage sludge, and the hazards associated with their disposal,
Silage juices, storage, handling, and processing methods,
Waste generated in food production. Their treatment and disposal, as well as the risks associated with their handling
Processing of animal by-products not intended for human consumption.
Use of animal by-products in agriculture, food and pharmaceutical.
