CONDITIONS FOR COMPLETION OF COURSE
In order to pass the course, the student must have active participation in lectures and practical training. The prerequisite for passing the examination is the preparation and defence of a seminar paper on the topic assigned by the supervisor (in the range A-E), which is the result of self-study. The examination is awarded on the basis of an assessment of the knowledge acquired (in the A-E range).
Learning outcomes
by completing the course, the student will gain an overview of the basic techniques of genetic engineering in the field of recombinant DNA. In the laboratory techniques, the student will apply his/her knowledge and skills in molecular analysis and also get a glimpse into the field of lesser known RNA molecules (microRNA, siRNA) to RNA interference methods that can be used in gene therapy. The results of the training are verified by the preparation of a seminar paper, its defence and a final examination.
Brief outline of the course
genetic engineering and gene manipulation (basics, meaning, use). Recombinant DNA - characteristics, methods of preparation. Cloning and gene expression in different host systems. Enzymes in genetic engineering. Vectors used in genetic engineering. Techniques for the preparation of transgenic animals. Genetic engineering and gene therapy (linkage, techniques, applications).
