CONDITIONS FOR COMPLETION OF COURSE
In order to pass the course, the student must have active participation in lectures and practical training. The prerequisite for passing the examination is the preparation and defence of a seminar paper on the topic assigned by the supervisor (in the range A-E), which is the result of self-study. The examination is awarded on the basis of an assessment of the knowledge acquired (in the A-E range).
Learning outcomes
The graduate of the compulsory elective course bioinformatics will acquire additional knowledge
about informatics and bioinformatics tools used in genomics and proteomics, i.e. analysis of DNA and protein sequences, analysis of big data, such as transcriptomic and proteomic data, and analyses within immunogenetics. The learning outcomes are verified by the preparation of a seminar paper, its defence and a final examination.
Brief outline of the course
DNA sequence analysis (Sanger sequence analysis). How to do alignment of sequences, different methods of alignment, different methods of construction of dendrograms. Next generation sequence analysis. How to do quality control. How to do sequence alignment. How to map genome sequences. Gene Ontology (GO). What is GO. How to use GO. Analysis of cell signaling. Methods and use of different servers. Shiney R. How to use Shiney R in the analysis of transcriptomic and proteomic data. Prediction servers. Different prediction servers for DNA, RNA and proteins. Primer design. Bioinformatics of epitopes, mimotopes, MHC and antibodies.
