CONDITIONS FOR COMPLETION OF COURSE
In order to pass the course, the student must have active participation in lectures and practical training. The prerequisite for passing the examination is the preparation and defence of a seminar paper on the topic assigned by the supervisor (in the range A-E), which is the result of self-study. The examination is awarded on the basis of an assessment of the knowledge acquired (in the A-E range).
Learning outcomes
The graduate of the compulsory elective course molecular biology will gain additional knowledge about PCR and its variations, primer design, analysis of gene expression data, analysis of data obtained from transcriptomic and proteomic analyses, immunogenetics and microscopy.
Brief outline of the course
Advanced PCR methods, construction of genes and plasmids, preparation of expression cassettes, OE-PCR, qRT-PCR, gene and protein expression. Methods and processing of results. Transcriptomics and proteomics in immunology. Recombination techniques, gain-in mutants, deletion mutants, use of natural mutations in immunology. Random and directed mutagenesis and its use in immunology. High-throughput techniques for immunogenetics, e.g. NGS (Next generation sequencing). Imaging technologies and their use in immunology and microbiology.
