Learning outcomes
The student will acquire basic knowledge about parasitic and infectious diseases of companion animals with an emphasis on zoonoses classified according to OIE and WHO. The student will apply the acquired knowledge in outpatient and clinical activities in various professional spheres of society (professional activities for private veterinarians, professional activities for diagnostic laboratories), in the performance of epizootiological and epidemiological activities in the protection of animal and human health, as well as in the prevention of parasitic and infectious diseases and environmental protection.
Brief outline of the course
The goal is the study of the most important and most frequently occurring parasitic and infectious diseases of companion animals from the point of view of geographical distribution, etiology, epizootiology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, course and clinical manifestations, pathological-morphological changes, diagnosis, disease prevention. The main emphasis is placed on biological aspects and correct diagnostic methods in parasitology and infectious diseases. The subject is divided into two units (parasitic and infectious diseases) based on the knowledge gained during the study of basic laboratory methods and the basics of microbiology, parasitology and immunology. It focuses on the study of helminthiasis, protozoan diseases and ectoparasites, bacterial, viral and fungal diseases of dogs, cats, small mammals, reptiles, birds and horses.
