Complex knowledge on infectious and parasitic diseases of dogs and cats, ability to diagnose, treat and prevent them. Differential diagnosis, results interpretation.
Stručná osnova predmetu
The most important infectious and parasitic diseases of dogs and cats affecting skin, respiratory, gastrointestinal, urogenital, nervous system, clinical and laboratory diagnostics, therapy, prevention, vaccination programmes, registration, pet pass.
Sylabus predmetu
Lectures
1. Infectious and parasitic skin inflammation in dogs and cats. Otitis externa. Mycotic diseases of small animals.
2. Kennel cough and other respiratory infections of dogs and cats. Chlamydial infections of cats
3. Parvoviral infections and other GIT infections of dogs and cats.
4. Infectious diseases of dogs and cats affecting urinary and reproduction system
5. Canine distemper, rabies and other diseases affecting nervous system of small animals.
6. Feline leukaemia, feline immunodeficiency, infectious peritonitis and pleuritis.
7. Infectious diseases of dogs and cats characterised by natural focality (leptospirosis, lyme boreliosis, tick encephalitis, ehrlichiosis, ....)
8. Preventive, control and eradication measures at infectious diseases of dogs and cats. Principles of specific immunoprophylaxis.
9. Protozooses of GIT (giardiosis, cryptosporidiosis, izosporosis, sarcocystosis, toxoplasmosis, neosporosis). Systemic protozooses (toxoplasmosis, neosporosis, leishmaniosis, encephalitozoonoses).
10. Vector borne blood protozooses (babesioses, hepatozoonoses, cytauxzoonosis). Vector transmitted helmintoses (spirocercosis, dirofilariosis, thelaziosis).
11. Cestodoses, trematodoses of dogs and cats.
12. Nematodoses of small and large intestine (toxocarosis, strongyloidosis, toxascariosis, ancylostomosis , uncinariosis, trichurosis). Nematodoses of respiratory system of dogs and cats.
13. Ectoparasitoses (Ticks, sarcoptic mange, demodicosis, louse and fleas infestation of dogs and cats, and other enthomoses)

6. Clinical and laboratory diagnostics of cat infectious, serological tests ( FeLV, FIV a FIP). Interpretation of results
7. Vaccination of dogs and cats and actual legislation. Principles of infectious diseases prevention in young animlas.
8. Epizootological and epidemiological activities in disease reporting and protection of state territory and transport of animals. Registration of companion animals. Pet passports.
