The condition for passing the course is active participation in practical exercises in accordance with the Study Regulations and successful completion of credit test to at least 51%.
Výsledky vzdelávania
By completing the course the student acquires basic knowledge in the field of general pharmacology and pharmacy with a focus on the method of preparation of dosage forms used in animal therapy. The graduate masters the calculation of therapeutic doses, preparation and dilution of drug solutions, handling and storage. The result of the education is an understanding of the principles of the effect of drugs, their movement in the body, pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic properties also with respect to different methods of drug application.

Course content:
- the importance of pharmacology in the practice of the veterinary nurse,
- division and preparation of individual dosage forms, their labeling and storage,
- drug dose calculations and dilution of solutions,
- legislation - Act on Medicinal Products and Pharmacopoeia,
- the methods of administration of the medicinal products and the correctness of their choice,
- general pharmacology, principles of drug action,
- pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs.
Sylabus predmetu
Lecture syllabus:
1. Introduction to pharmacology, importance for the practice of veterinary nurses, basic terminology.
2. Legislation - Medicine Act, prescription, pharmacopoeia.
3. Solid dosage forms used in animal therapy - characteristics, classification.
4. Liquid dosage forms - characteristics, classification, application in therapy.
5. Semi-solid dosage forms - characteristics, use in practice.
6. Preparation of drugs, labeling, storage, handling.
7. Administration of drugs, dosing regimen, accuracy of dosing calculations.
8. General pharmacology. The movement of the drug in the body.
9. Pharmacokinetics of drugs - drug absorption, the effect of the route of administration on drug absorption.
10. Distribution, metabolism, drug excretion.
11. Pharmacodynamics of drugs - mode of action of drugs, interactions, side effects.
12. Manipulation with narcotic and psychotropic substances.
13. Classification of therapeutics according to pathogens.
Syllabus of practical exercises:
1. Calculations of concentrations and dilution of solutions, basic units used in pharmacology.
2. Reading prescriptions, prescription abbreviations, basics of pharmacy, pharmacopoeia.
3. Characteristics of solid dosage forms, calculation of dosage of tablets and powders.
4. Characteristics of liquid dosage forms, calculation of dosage of solutions.
5. Characteristics of soft dosage forms, calculation of the amount of active substances in ointments.
6. Test 1.
7. Preparation of solid dosage forms, packaging, labeling, storage.
8. Preparation of liquid dosage forms, packaging, labeling, storage.
9. Preparation of soft dosage forms, packaging, labeling, storage.
10. Dilution of solutions to the required concentration, dilution of antibiotics.
11. Diagnosis of infectious diseases, antibiogram
12. Test 2.
13. Methods of drug administration.

Podmienky na absolvovanie predmetu
Continuous assessment:
Assessment of knowledge will be conducted in the form of 2 tests, each must be mastered at least 51%, which is a condition for granting credit.
Conditions for completion of course:
The condition for passing the course is active participation in practical exercises in accordance with the Study Regulations and successful completion of credit test to at least 51%.
Final assessment:
Based on a successful assessment of both tests (minimum 51%), credit will be awarded.
