The course provides a thorough foundation of knowledge and skills necessary for the student to become a valuable member of the veterinary rehabilitation team upon completion. He will master methods for effective evaluation and treatment of patients with various pathological conditions. Coverage includes treatment protocols for many types of skin, neurological and musculoskeletal injuries that facilitate faster and more complete recovery.

Sylabus predmetu
Lectures: 1. Access to the acute patient and stabilization of the acute patient/ dog, cat 2. Access to the patient with acute collapse and to the patient after trauma, stabilization of the patient/ dog, cat 3. Care of the acute neurological patient/ dog, cat 4. Care of of an acute patient with a cardiorespiratory problem/ dog, cat 5. Care of a patient with an acute urogenital problem/ dog, cat 6. Care of a patient with an acute abdomen/ dog, cat 7. Care of an acute ophthalmological/ dog, cat 8. Care of an acute endocrinological patient/dog, cat 9. Basics of traumatology and wound management/dog, cat 10. Hospitalization of an acute patient – horse, feeding, monitoring, fluid therapy, stabilization of a trauma patient. 11. Acute diseases in horses and first aid for individual organ diseases 12. Trauma in horses and management of wounds in horses 13. Care of foals after birth, complicated births, abortions, care of the mother after birth, method of feeding and complications in care. Exercises: 1. Organization of work at the emergency reception and in the emergency hospitalization unit 2. Instrumentation, sterilization, disinfection 3. Examination of an acute patient, assessment of the condition and stabilization of an acute patient 4. Tracheotomy, tracheostomy, care of patients with tracheotomy and tracheostomy 5. Practical approach to a patient with an acute collapse 6. Examination and treatment of a traumatized patient, stabilization of a traumatized patient 7. Patient resuscitation 8. Injection techniques and infusion techniques, dressing techniques 9. Probes, centesis, catheterization and drainage of body cavities 10. Basic surgical techniques - sutures, wound drainage 11. Practical approach to the acute patient, stabilization of the horse, cannulation and implementation of fluid therapy, work management in the acute patient with trauma. 12. Practical exercise and execution of necessary actions in acute abdomen (colic and decision to operate / not to operate), trauma, blood transfusion and its execution, basic hematology and biochemistry in acute patient condition. 13. Practical training in labor management during the birth of a mare.
