PODMIENKY NA ABSOLVOVANIE PREDMETU
In order to pass the course, the student must have active participation in lectures and practical training. The prerequisite for passing the examination is the preparation and defence of a seminar paper on the topic assigned by the supervisor (in the range A-E), which is the result of self-study. The examination is awarded on the basis of an assessment of the knowledge acquired (in the A-E range).
Výsledky vzdelávania
By completing the course, the student will use the knowledge of epidemiology and at the same time understand the interrelationships between classical epidemiology and molecular epidemiology, acquire new knowledge about the use of molecular epidemiology methods for the study of infectious diseases of animals in the 21st century. Acquire new skills to identify and typify pathogens at the genome level of microorganisms. Gain experience in the use of bioinformatics methods to investigate genetic variation in pathogens, the use of international databases, which will enable the student to determine the relationships between pathogens in a disease outbreak as well as the relationships between outbreaks. With the acquired knowledge and understanding of molecular epidemiology, the graduate will be able to independently interpret the results, formulate correct conclusions and recommendations for the management and resolution of disease situations in animal husbandry in accordance with modern approaches comparable to those of the developed countries of the world.
Stručná osnova predmetu
Basic principles and procedures of molecular epidemiology; Relationships between classical epidemiology and molecular epidemiology; Identification of the pathogenic microorganism - the causative agent of the disease or zoonosis at the genome level, confirmation of the outbreak by molecular genetic methods; Genome of the pathogenic microorganism, DNA mutations, significance of mutations; Analysis of DNA mutations in the outbreak by bioinformatics methods; Molecular data, their intercomparison (alignment of nucleotide sequences) and comparison with data from international databases (NCBI, EMBL); Importance of comparison of molecular data for determination of relationships between outbreaks; Importance of molecular epidemiology methods for disease control, for implementation of recovery programmes in livestock breeding.
