To pass the course, the student must actively participate in lectures and exercises. The condition for passing the exam is the preparation and defense of a seminar paper on a topic specified by the guarantor (in the range A-E), which is the result of self-study. The exam is awarded based on the evaluation of acquired knowledge (in the range A-E). | |

Course completion gives knowledge about the principles of animal behavior. Students will be familiar with the behavior of domesticated animals and have information on the prevention and treatment of primary and secondary abnormal behavioral forms in animals. |

Applied veterinary ethology, relevance to practice and research, the status and concept of welfare, behaviour animals in a disease state, stress, distress, frustration, deprivation, adaptive strategies, and the ethological basics of cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, poultry, dogs, cats, and pet birds, Zoo animals, basic forms of etopathy, history taking, an etho-questionnaire, an ethogram, observation methodology, etopathy of individual animal species, diagnosis, therapy of etopathy, and a behavioral, environmental, and pharmacological approach. |

The concept of ethology, its history, meaning from a biological and medical perspective, influences on behaviour, internal regulation of behaviour, innate, learned behaviour, its forms, ontogeny of behaviour, significance of imprinting, motivational aspects of behaviour, modification of behaviour by experience, applied veterinary ethology, relevance to practice and research, the status and concept of welfare, behaviour animals in a disease state, stress, distress, frustration, deprivation, adaptive strategies, and the ethological basics of cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, poultry, dogs, cats, and pet birds, Zoo animals, basic forms of etopathy, history taking, an etho-questionnaire, an ethogram, observation methodology, etopathy of individual animal species, diagnosis, therapy of etopathy, and a behavioral, environmental, and pharmacological approach. |
