Výsledky vzdelávania
Radiobiology (also known as radiation biology) is a branch of biology dealing with the effects of radiation or radioactive materials on biological systems. The aim of the education process is to prepare students for further study at the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice. Help them understand the importance of the effects of ionizing radiation on the health of the organism and the use of radiation, especially in medicine and food industry. The students will know the basics and terms of radiobiology after passing the subject. It is important for a veterinary medical student to understand the essential rules, differences, mechanisms of radiation effect at the level of cells and tissues and the organism, radiation protection, clinical manifestations/radiation syndromes of acute and late effects of ionizing radiation due to radiation sickness.
Stručná osnova predmetu
The content focus of the subject is as follows: The students will gain information and knowledge about basic radiobiological concepts, about protection against the effects of ionizing radiation on the body, about the use of diagnostic methods in the overall assessment of health status and/or contamination of various substances. The students will receive basic information and orientation in Radiobiology. It is important for a veterinary medical student to understand the essential rules, differences, mechanisms of radiation effect at the level of cells and tissues and the organism, radiation protection, clinical manifestations/radiation syndromes of acute and late effects of ionizing radiation due to radiation sickness. The system of protection against ionizing radiation as well as the methods of radioactivity control are based on knowledge about the biological effects of radiation and knowledge about the relationship between radiation dose and body health. Tissues of the organism express different sensitivity to radiation represented by particular types of particles emissions according to macroscopical and microscopical changes in organism after radiation exposure.
