Výsledky vzdelávania
After completing the subject, the student should be able to consult with the owner, take the patient's history, make a basic clinical examination, develop a diagnostic plan with differential diagnoses and propose an appropriate therapy with the subsequent management of the patient.
Stručná osnova predmetu
Introduction to internal diseases of small animals, dermatology, gastrointestinal, uro-nephro, pancreatic, liver and bone and muscles diseases.
Sylabus predmetu
Introduction + .Information on labour safety for the students. Patient management
Clinical examination of a dog – general health check, first puppy check, registration /education of a new owner
Haematology - anemia, coagulopathies, leucaemia, polycytemia
Blood smear evaluation, blood transfusion
Diseases of bones and muscles
Fluid therapy – assessing hydration status, calculating volume and electrolytes replacement, acid base status assessment, routes of drug administration – S.C., I.M., I.V. injection
Acute and chronic renal failure, glomerulonephropathy
USG of kidneys, urinary bladder and prostate gland, cystocentesis, long term management of CRF cases, FLUTD. Urolithiasis, disorders of micturation, prostatic diseases
Diagnostic work up of dysuria, stranguria, haematuria, urinalysis, catheterisation male
Dermatology I - Parasitic skin diseases and superficial and deep pyoderma
Protocol for dermatological patient, skin scraping, skin biopsy, sampling for fungal culture,
microscopic examination of skin scraping
Dermatology II - Alopetic skin diseases, hormone responsive dermatoses, mycotic skin diseases disorders of sebum production
Lesson: diagnostic work up of alopecia, seborea, FNA of skin lesions, impression smears, cytology of skin lesions
Dermatology III- Atopy, food hypersensitivity, Immune mediated skin diseases
Intradermal skin test, long term management of pruritic dog
Dermatology IV– otitis externa and media, diseases of skin adnexa , anal glands + skin tumors
Otoscopy, ear flush, ear swab cytology, Dif. dg of skin masses, long term management of chronic otitis
Gastroenterology I – diseases of oral cavity, esophagus
Diagnostic work up of common clin. manifestations of GIT diseases – halitosis, dysphagia, regurgitation
Gastroenterology II – diseases of stomach
Dg + terap. plan in vomiting dog (acute, chronic), acute abdomen
Gastroenterology III – diseases of small and large bowel, pancreatic diseases in dog and cat (EPI, tumors, acute and chronic pancreatitis), anorectal diseases
Diagnostic work up of common clin. manifestations of GIT diseases – acute, chronic diarrhea, chronic weight lost, tenesmus, constipation, IBD, test for malabsorption
Primary and secondary liver diseases, diseases of gall bladder and bile duct, portosystemic abnormalities, Hepatic encephalopathy
Diagnostic work up of suspected hepathopathy – understanding laboratory profile (biochemistry, haematology, liver function tests), USG of the liver, FNA
