Conditions for granting credit: - participation in lectures and exercises - absence of a maximum of 3 exercises, one of the exercises is recognized without excuse - successfully pass the credit test (12th week of classes) with a minimum of 51% success rate
Výsledky vzdelávania
By completing the Poultry Diseases course, the student acquires theoretical knowledge about etiopathogenesis, clinical symptomatology, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, therapy and prevention of infectious, non-infectious and parasitic diseases of various avian species (grazing and waterfowl, ornamental poultry, pigeons and others) in intensive and extensive farms poultry and practical skills in clinical and laboratory diagnosis of diseases (examination of the farm as a whole, individual examination of poultry, collection of biological material, its processing and evaluation, laboratory diagnostics, hematological, cytological, coprological, pathological autopsy) and in individual and mass application of medications.

Introduction to poultry diseases, general relationship to production and diseases.
Lesson:
Methodology in the clinical examination of poultry.
Patients introduction
The safety to be followed during lessons, while perfoming clinical examinations.
Preparation of patients for demonstration.
2nd week:
Lecture:
Principles of diseases prevention, diagnosis and control. Growth disorders.
Lesson:
Application of drugs, division of drugs used for poultry.
Assistance during practising of drug administration.
Patient collection and preparation.
3rd week:
Lecture:
Diseases of nutrition. Diseases of integument (skin and feather). External parasites.
Lesson:
Introduction of blood sampling.
Assistance: haematological panel cheking up.
Patient collection and preparation.
4th week:
Lecture:
Diseases of the eye. Heart and blood diseases.
Lesson:
Cytology + blood smem exaluation.
Clinical oncology and avian medicine Interpretation of leukogram and myelogram. Lympho and myeloproliferative diseases in avian medicine.
Revision test.
Laboratory markers interpretation in general.
5th week:
Lecture:
Haemorrhagic diathesis. Poisons and toxins.
Lesson:
Diagnosis and therapy of parasite diseases.
Disinfectants, parasiticides, insecticides, and pesticides.
Ecto and endoparasites introduction and demonstration of patients.
6th week:
Lecture:
Diseases of the respiratory system: fungal, bacterial, parasitic, and others.
Lesson:
Clinical and laboratory examination of patient, preparation of protocol.
Demonstration of patients, sampling, focusing on respiratory system (bacterial, parasitic and fungal and others).
7th week:
Lecture:
Diseases of digestive system, gastrointestinal disorders. Dysfuction of different aetiology.
Lesson:
Examination of hatching eggs, embryonal mortality.
Preparation of hatching eggs, hen and assistance during candling.
Preparation of patients, eggs etc.
8th week:
Lecture:
Protozoan diseases: Coccidioses and others (intestinal, blood, and tissue).
Lesson:
Examination of digestive system.
Demonstration of patiens, sampling.
9 th week:
Lecture:
Diseases of the urinary and the reproductive system.
Lesson:
Clinical and laboratory examination.
Laboratory panel used in avian medicine.
Patient collection and preparation.
10th week:
Lecture:
Mycotoxicoses. Diseases of ostriches.
Lesson:
Examination of patients. Diagnosis, therapy, and prevention of ostriches. Introduction for patient protocol preparation.
Mycotoxicoses diagnostics and differentiation, demonstration of patients.
Patient collection and preparation.
11th week:
Lecture:
Developmental, metabolic and miscellaneous disorders. Diseases of pigeon.
Lesson:
Demonstration of pattients: pigeons.
Clinical examination of a given patients.

Credit Revision Test.

Podmienky na absolvovanie predmetu
Content prerequisite:
To be able to complete the Poultry Diseases course, students must have theoretical knowledge in the field of anatomy and physiology (normal and pathological), general epizootology, parasitology of birds .
Continuous assessment:
Credit and Compensations according Article No.12 and No.13 Study Guidelines of the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice 2011/2012, Internal regulation No.2
To obtain credit, practical sessions must be attended or compensated together with the min 80% passed revision tests during the semester 12-15 week and 2 clinical protocols during clinical practise passed.
Clinical practise will be available dajly from 8-1200 and 13-15 hours in building 26.
Active participation at lessons, based on theoretical knowledge is required and it is compulsory. Students missing required knowledge should be excluded from the lesson
